Olivia tossed and turned all night considering Ashley’s words… “You have no other choice.” She wanted to defend herself by saying she had other choices, but what were they? To leave Ashley and be without her wasn’t an option she wanted to consider and it made no sense to bother presenting an ultimatum. Olivia knew if it came down to her stubbornness over Ashley’s, she would lose.
After giving up the battle in getting her eyes to close, and exploring every possible position in her bed, Olivia pulled herself from the tangled up sheets and took twice the recommended dose of sleeping pills. She needed to get some organization to her thoughts, but tomorrow morning would have to do. She fell back into her bed and rubbed her hand over the empty space beside her. You have no choice, her mind echoed.
She needed to know if she was being selfish and irrational in wanting Ashley to take a leap of faith and coming to stay with her. First thing in the morning, Olivia sent out a text to her three closest friends.
“I need my girls tonight. Dinner at 8 in the usual place.”
She paused for a moment and nearly simultaneously, she received confirming messages. Now, she prepared for a mental-health day.
